LiDAR uses in Computer Games

I was searching for LiDAR libraries that could be valuable for creating LiDAR viewers, and I found something interesting about the use of LiDAR files in computer games.

To create a computer game, most of the times it´s necessary to create an "environment" where the game will take place. If the game will run on land, that is, is not a thing like a spaceship battle, it will be necessary to create the floor where the characters will interact.

The floor should be, of course, realistic, with geographical stuff like mountains, rivers, slopes and even streets and buildings. To create it "by hand" is a challenge, as you should create a large 3D surface to make your game looks real.

As there´s a lot of LiDAR clouds available on the internet for free, some guy had the idea: what about to simply download those LiDAR files, create a DTM based on it and then use it as the place where the game will run?

It seems that they're doing it a lot, as there are many videos teaching how to do it on the internet. Here you have one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5lafgEVNWI

Now I´m trying to convince some geeks that I know to build a 3D forest for us based on our clouds...
